Would you continue the Rf value of a pigment to be the like if a incompatible solvent were apply? Explain. No I would not command the Rf value to be polar because the pigments go out dissolve early(a)wise in several(predicate) grammatical cases of solvents. For example, chlorophyl b is truly soluble in aquaphobic solutions, so if the low-spirited spinach cells on the paper were put in a hydrophobic solution, the chlorophyll b would move the heightsest and likely be in effect(p) on the solution front, while the an some other(prenominal) pigments leave alone move much less. 3. Japanese and centralization Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 250 words

Japanese and centralization - Essay ExampleHowever, in tandem with an understanding that centralization establishes and upholds a natural order, the piece in addition indicates that the unsettled minds of the people and the doubt that they have for the future is likely to create a signifi stinkert hardship for any that would try out to establish a further level of centralization or control over the territories.Likewise, the second document, entitled The Capital, Taxes, and the Army, written in 646 AD also compounds the importance and need for centralization. In such a way, the author focuses on the need to maintain a national army and the importance of subservience and obedience that this army will have to the emperor. Yet, rather than focusing on how this could be established, the article returns to the competing interests of tribal warlords and those that might wish to have a disproportionately massive say in the affairs of the newly created state. The undertone of the entire a rticle is one that leaves the reader with little question that these types of individuals cannot be won over to the piss and must ultimately be coerced by force to engage in the process of centralization.Similarly, the third document, entitled The Corruption of Local Officials, focuses, not surprisingly, on the spunky levels of corruption being a stumbling block to further levels of centralization. With these local officials withholding money and tribute for themselves, the degree and extent to which a central emperor can raise taxes and have sway over a given region was obviously

Is new technology a need with a higher expense or a want in simplicity Research Paper

Is new-made technology a need with a high schooler expense or a want in simplicity in aviation - Research Paper ExampleGlobal passenger traffic has risen from about 1.7 one thousand million in the year 2000 to about 3 billion in 2012 with only two dips in the trend happening in the year 2011 due to the 9/11 attack, economic downturn, and the SARS Epidemic, and also in the year 2010 caused by the financial crises and global recession (International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) and International Air Transport Association (IATA) (as cited in Beynon). The reasonable rejoinder of respiratory tract companies with the greater influx of passengers is to add new planes to its fleet. A report by the Airline Monitor (2012) compiled the total air craft deliveries per year by Boeing and Airbus, two of the largest aircraft manufacturer (as cited in Beynon). The report shows that there will be a total of 1,300 new aircrafts delivered by the end of 2013 and as much as 1,600 additional air crafts by 2019. The cost of procuring an A350 (Airbus) is about $320 million while a B777 (Boeing) costs about $315 million. (Rothman and Walid and AircraftCompare.com) It is evident from these statistics that a huge chunk of the tax payers bills are channeled to the improvement of aircrafts used by our armed forces and theres also a lot of silver being poured out into the commercial airline business. However, we are just recovering from the effects of the Global recession and the financial crises thats why we need to take in perspective the amount of money that we spend as well as the government spends on buying and improving our aircrafts. Two of the changes that aircraft manufacturers infuse in their new fleets are better enkindle efficiency and replacement of gauges in the cockpit with Multifunction Electronic Display Systems (MEDS). The MEDS are essentially cathode-ray tube (CRT), active-matrix liquid-crystal display (AMLCD) (tannas.com) or LED monitors that display the info rmation once seen from the divers(prenominal) gauges in the cockpit. Better fuel consumption is highly beneficial for cost reduction and lessening the impact of flight to the environment however, there is a oppugn on why we need to upgrade the gauges to panels and monitors when the mechanical gauges works just fine? Is this upgrade a necessity that we are willing to pay high prices for or just a whim to make things simpler in aviation? I. The Need for Electronic Flight Displays The glass cockpit as NASA names it is a new configuration in the airplane and space shuttle cockpit design using CRT, LCD, or LED screens in place of the old electromechanical displays, gauges and instruments that have worked for so long in the aviation industry. Instead of having multiple knobs, buttons, switches, indicators, gauges and symbols that cluttered the cockpit, the screens now display all the relevant information for the pilot to safely take-off, fly and trim the plane (NASA, 2000). Lane Wallac e, a correspondent of the Airborn Trailblazer said that before the 70s there really was no need for computerized electronic flight displays however, with the increasing complexness of aircrafts, the improvement of digital systems and ballooning air traffic prompted the need for displays that could process raw in-flight and aircraft-systems data and integrate is so as the displayed information contains the position, situation and make of the aircraft within the three dimensions and with regards to speed and time. (NASA) The developers of this technology say that cockpits that are fitted with these displays

With the legalization of medicinal marijuana, nurses will be permitted to advocate for patient use of marijuana when it comes to medicinal purposes. This is possible through the coming together of a growing physical body of state nursing associations through the backing of therapeutic use of marijuana (Diana, 2011). What problems were encountered? Although medicinal marijuana has a number of benefits associated with it, marijuana has in most cases been flaunted as one of the harmless recreational substances available. Date) Similar Qualities and Circumstances between Melanie Ballinger in Richard Bauschs Arent You Happy For Me and the unsung Narrator in Nurrudin Farahs My Father, The Englishman, and I - Essay ExampleIn most families with problems, the most unfortunate thing is that although the parents are the ones with personal issues, it is the children who suffer from these. Both Melanie Ballinger in Richard Bauschs Arent You Happy For Me? and the Unnamed Narrator in Nurrudin Farahs My Father, The Englishman, and I share similar qualities and circumstances in the face of family conflicts. In some(prenominal) stories, each child defies his or her parents authority. In Arent You Happy For Me?, Melanie Ballinger defies her father when she decides to get married with William Coombes, a literature professor who is 40 years older than she is and notwithstanding nineteen years older than her experience father. It seems obvious that Melanie knows that her father would be very upset because she empl oys several delaying tactics in the lead she tells her father how old her fiance is. This means that she knows that he would be hurt. Nevertheless, the reason why she has still twoered to tell him about it is only out of family courtesy, which she in truth tries to emphasize at the end of the story (Bausch). It also seems that Melanie does not trust her own father and this could be the reason for her defiance of his authority. In fact, she shows this distrust when afterward her father asks her to let William talk to him, she immediately asks him, Do you promise not to yell at him? (Bausch). This is clearly a sign that Melanie does not trust her own father and perhaps this is the reason that she challenges his authority. Perhaps, the ultimate sign that she does not respect her fathers authority anymore is when she tells him, I wouldve been better than you were, Daddy, no motion how hard it was and If it wasnt for Mom, we wouldnt be coming over for a visit (Bausch). Both these li nes imply that Melanie does not anymore respect her fathers authority and she would even consider she and her mother to be greater than him in authority. The unnamed bank clerk in My Father, The Englishman, and I actually shows the same defiance of authority but he directs it towards his own father at first, and later on towards his own mother. At first, the narrators mother as well as the narrator himself would both hate his fathers kowtowing to the Englishman. Moreover, the narrator would find it ironic that his father would be kindness itself to non-family but temperamental with his dependents (Farah). Such hatred and temperament is obviously detested by the narrator, and he expresses such hatred, resentment and defiance of his fathers authority by resisting eating the boiled sweets that the Englishman sends along with his father. However, such defiance changes in the second half of the story, after the narrators mother dies, he begins defying her legacy by taking the side of h is father and the Englishman. At this point in his life, he accepts a new allegiance as the Englishman embraced him (Farah). However, although his mother has died, the narrator regrets that he was not able to do anything to prevent the clan elders from agreeing to the agreement of the English Had I been present, or had my mother been consulted, maybe this would not have occurred (Farah). Although perhaps the narrator has had no choice but to take his fathers side when his mother died, deep down maybe he did not want this change to happen. Perhaps, there is some reason why Melanie Ballinger and the unnamed narrator has shown defiance of their parents authority, and it could have been because they do not understand their parents. The reason could rather be something deeper. Both characters have parents who are

Existentialism is a Humanism Essay Example for Free

Existentialism is a Humanism EssayIn Existentialism is a Humanism, Jean-Paul Sartre (1905-1980) presents an accessible description of existentialism. A key idea of existentialismand of the human condition is that existence precedes essence. The essence of something is its meaning, its intended purpose. A paper cutter is make to cut paper that is its point. Humans, however, do not have an essence. human race exists, turns up, appears on the scene, and, just now afterwards, defines himself. We have no greater purpose, no pre-determined plan, no ultimate meaning. We have, in Sartres words, no human nature, since there is cypher (e.g. immortal) outside of us which would conceive of it for us. We are simply here, and it is up to us to define ourselves.Responsibility Man is nothing else but what he makes of himself. We have choice, we have subjectivity, and we choose what we will make ourselves to be we are entirely responsible for our existence Thus, existentialisms first move i s to make every man aware of what he is and to make the full responsibility of his existence rest on him. This thought is lots not easily accepted. Subjectivity is a word that riles up many. If everything is subjective then nothing is objective nothing is absolute Our values are nothing more than our whims nary(prenominal)hing is right or wrong Rabble, rabble, rabble Sartre replies that, it is impossible for man to transcend human subjectivity. He isnt saying I cull subjectivity over objectivity, hes asking, how keister we possibly not be subjective? Even the religious individual who believes that morality is absolute and comes from God must, at some point, choose to believe that this is the case. Our responsibility is a blessing and a curse. It leads us to feel things like anguish, forlornness, and despair.Anguish We experience anguish in the face of our subjectivity, because by choosing what we are to do, we choose for everyone. When you make a decision you are saying this is how anyone ought to behave given these circumstances. Many people dont feel anguish, but this is because they are fleeing from it. If you dont feel a sense of anxiety when you make decisions, its because you are forgetting about your total and involved responsibility toward yourself and all of human race.Forlornness Forlornness is the idea that God does not exist and that we have to face all the consequences of this. There is no morality a priori. There is no absolute right or wrong. There is no ultimate judge. This is a very distressing idea. As Dostoievsky said, If God didnt exist, everything would be possible permissible. Without God we have nothing to cling to. There is no determinism, man is free, man is freedom. We have no values or commands to turn to which legitimize our conduct. In other words, we have no excuses, and we are entirely responsible for our decisions. What are our values? The only way to determine them is to make a decision. At the end of the day, your ideal s arent what matter what matters is what you actually did.Despair Despair arises because we only have power to change things that are indoors our power to changeand there is a lot we rear endnot change. Reality is impartial and out of your control, except for small aspects of it here and there. We despair because we can never have full control of the future. What leave alone Happen Will Happen Tomorrow, after my death, some men may decide to set up Fascism, and the others may be cowardly and muddled plenty to let them do it. Fascism will then be the human domain, so much the worse for us.Regardless of what is right or wrong, good or bad, and regardless of whether these are absolutes or not, things will be as man will have decided they are to be. What will happen will happen and humanity will be entirely responsible for what it does. Does this mean we ought to become passively accepting of what will happen? Sartre says the exact opposite. Does that mean that I should abandon mys elf to quietism? No. Quietism is the attitude of people who say, Let others do what I cant do. The doctrine I am presenting is the very opposite of quietism, since it declares, There is no reality except in action. Moreover, it goes further, since it adds, Man is nothing else than his plan he exists only to the extent that he fulfills himself he is therefore nothing else than the ensemble of his acts, nothing else than his life.No Excuses This is why existentialism horrifies some people. It puts such a burden of responsibility squarely on their shoulders. They cant stand to think they were at teddy for not being a great or successful person, for having no great friendships or love. They think they are the victim of circumstances they havent had the proper education, leisure, or incentives they havent found the right person yet they havent had the opportunity to show their greatness. Sartre, however, says that The coward makes himself cowardly, the hero makes himself heroic. The o perative is an artist because of the works of art he created, not because of what he could have created. The mathematician is famous for the math he did, not what he maybe could have done. We find that this is a harsh thought to someone whose life hasnt been a success. We are responsible for our successes and failures. But at the same time, this harshness forces us to face the improbably important fact that Reality alone is what counts. Sartre sees these views not as a pessimism, but as an optimistic toughness. Optimistic in that we are the rulers of our lives our destiny is within our hands we are encouraged to take action.Sartre summarizes his idea of optimism and action in the following passage. Thus, I think we have answered a number of the charges concerning existentialism. You see that it can not be taken for a philosophy of quietism, since it defines man in terms of action nor for a pessimistic description of manthere is no doctrine more optimistic, since mans destiny is with in himself nor for an attempt to discourage man from acting, since it tells him that the only hope is in his acting and that action is the only thing that enables a man to live.Is Choice Arbitrary? Sartre ends this piece with a further defence of subjectivism, in which I wish he had gone into a little more detail. He says people are still not satisfied with the idea of subjectivism, and objections usually come in one of the following forms 1. head then, youre able to do anything, no matter what Youre promoting anarchy But this isnt the point. It is not possible to not choose. In not qualification a choice you are still choosing not to choose. Choice is inescapable we are condemned to be free because we are human, whether or not we are existentialists. 2. You cant pass judgement on others, because theres no reason to prefer one idea to another We can still inhibit values, and values appear out of the choices we make. Through our actions (as an individual and as a group), we create ethics. 3. Everything about your choice is arbitrary We define ourselves through our actions, in descent to involvement. And as we make ourselvesas we make choicesit is absurd to say we are choosing arbitrarily.

Impact of Unemployment in Economics Essay Example for Free

Impact of Unemployment in Economics EssayThere are many deal who are looking for transmission lines scarce cannot start them mostly because of the slow economical growth rate in the verdant. South Africa faces structural unemployment where throng loose their jobs due to introduction of advanced technology or relocation of the company, these economic disruptions have resulted in high crime rank, low production and income as well as lost human capital. The NDP has been put in place to solve the problem of unemployment, and if supported well at that place can be job creation because they promise on expanding work platform, reduce cost of doing assembly line and support entrepreneurship. Body South Africa faces the greatest challenge of a very high unemployment rate, which is highly influenced by the slow growth of the country because resulting in slow employment growth as well (Parkin et al, 2010449). Unemployment has been defined in two forms a designate definition an d a broad definition. The narrow definition of unemployment is the official definition of unemployment and it states that an unemployed person is a person who is unbidden to work and is making an effort to find a job, Parkin et al, states that To be counted as unemployed, a person must be available to workmust want to work and have made specific efforts to find a job or taken steps to start a business (Parkin et al, 2010495), but the broad definition of unemployment too includes the discouraged workers because they are people who are willing to work but have not been making an effort to find a job in the previous month mostly because they cannot find the jobs (Parkin et al, 2010495). The business cycle of a country also influences the employment and unemployment rank, for example during a recession period there are high unemployment rate and during intricacy there are lower unemployment place (Lipsey et al, 1999726). Unemployment is classified into three types i) Frictional, ii) Structural, iii) Cyclical.Frictional unemployment has been explained as The unemployment that arises from normal labour turnover from people entering and leaving the labour campaign and from the ongoing creation and destruction of jobs (Parkin et al, 2010501). The structural unemployment refers to the more crucial and enduring restrictions on worker mobility, Parkin et al, explains it as The unemployment that arises when changes in the technology or international contest change the skills needed to perform jobs or change in locations of jobs (Parkin et al, 2010502). Cyclical unemployment is influenced by the business cycle where a recession will increase unemployment and an expansion will decrease unemployment (Lipsey et al, 1999726).South Africa suffers from Structural unemployment to a greater extent because it affects the economic structure of the whole economy especially due to introduction of new technologies and skills needed to cope with competition from the other countri es, South Africa has gone global in the business sector therefore it needs to be upgrading its technology and skills to allude its competitors. Unemployment is calculated as the number of unemployed people expressed as a percentage of the labour force, where labour force is the number of unemployed people plus number of employed people (Parkin et al, 2010502). Number of people unemployed Unemployment = X 100 Labour Force Statistics in South Africa show that In Q42008, there were approximately 3. 9 meg people unemployed in South Africa and during the financial and economic crisis, the level of unemployment climbed rapidly, reaching a peak of 4. million in Q12010 (Labour Force take after 2012), this can be best explained as fluctuation of job creation because, during a recession when the country is facing economic hardships the number of jobs shrinks and this influences a spike in the unemployment rate (Parkin et al, 2010449).The unemployment rate in South Africa will never drop to zero because it is a developing country and does not have a very high Gross Domestic Product which is the market value of all final goods and services produced within a country in a given time period (Parkin et al, 2010468), when GDP is low, there is an increase in unemployment because there are few goods produced there for a limited labour force is needed to produce the few goods. The number of unemployed people rose to 4. 5 million in Q22011, but declined during the routine half of 2011, In Q12012, the number of unemployed people rose by 282 000, reaching 4. 5 million, which is the same level observed in Q22011 (Labour Force Survey 2012). Unemployment is a major issue in South Africa and the only way to manage it is by increasing our entrepreneurial strategy, supporting Small and Medium Enterprises as well as being united as a nation (Ramaphosa 2012). Job creation is not just a strategy to deal with unemployment but it is also going to eradicate poverty and this will increase th e living conditions of every South African citizen.Mr Ramaphosa notes that unemployment is hindering our endeavor to eradicate poverty and also reduce the inequality gap (Ramaphosa 2012). The National Development Plan (NDP) which was produced in 2011 by the National Planning Commission has been put in place as strategy to deal with unemployment and Mr Ramaphosa explains that It envisages the creation of 11 million jobs by 2030, and a reduction in levels of unemployment from about 25% to 6% (Ramaphosa 2012). The NDP plans on involving the government as well as the labour sector to play a role, an expansion of the public works programme is going to help reduce unemployment because it will be offering work experiences and skills to those people who are unemployed.Minimizing the cost of doing business helps small companies to get into business and also employ people to work the NDP also states that valuate subsidy will be granted to businesses to minimize the cost of recruiting young p eople (NDP Summary 2011), this will result in job creation and then unemployment is reduced. Unemployment affects the whole country because due to unemployment there will be low standard of living Mr Ramaphosa explains that employment is the core of humanity (Ramaphosa 2012), when unemployment is high crime rates tend to increase as well because need to earn a living, so since they cannot find jobs they resort to robbery, drug trafficking and prostitution, this helps explain the high crime rates and HIV Aids rate in South Africa.Economically unemployment leads to loss of production therefore low GDP because there are no people who can work to help make more products there is also lack and underutilization of human capital when there are high rates of unemployment (Parkin et al, 2010468). finale The NDP has been put in place to help manage unemployment in South Africa and if it gets support from everyone 11 million jobs will be created by 2030. Unemployment increases crime rates an d hence need to be managed properly. The government plans on reducing the costs of doing business and that way there can be creation of employment, the works programme is also going to be sed to provide skills to people who do not have jobs, and above all education for all has to be achieved so as to eradicate unemployment and hence poverty.
